About RD Wren
Thank you for your interest in my writing! Here are a few things you might like to know about the writer behind the words:
-
And when I say “reader” I mean voracious, insatiable, gleefully ruinous story-eater. I sank my teeth into Seuss and Dahl and Doyle and Crichton and Austen and Pratchett and Bradbury, then prowled the library shelves for hidden literary gems to add to my hoard of wonderful words and treasured stories.
-
My first novel was prescribed by my 5th grade teacher as a typing exercise. 110 pages later, the brilliant but misunderstood teenage demon/werewolf rebels defeated the evil, intergalactic overlord and I was the fastest typist in the 6th grade. It never saw the light of day. High School came and went with a second novel written and buried in much the same way. Words are the easy part, for me. Sharing them is more challenging. I know I’m not alone in that experience. That said, it’s time for me to be courageous! My life would’ve been much less wonderful if the writers I love had buried their words the way I used to bury mine.

I hold a BA degree in Science, Technology, and Society, and an MA degree in Comparative and Public History. I’ve been hugely privileged to have the financial, familial, and academic support to pursue these studies.

I teach English at an advanced level and Mandarin to beginners. Don’t be afraid; my appreciation of semicolons is not contagious. I’ve worked mainly with students in China, Hong Kong, Iran, Afghanistan, Italy, and India. Teaching English has also taught me a lot about this language I grew up speaking and writing. If you’re ever in doubt that our language was created by sadistic monsters, try pronouncing, “I can think of three thin things,” five times fast, then having to explain why “mysterious little red door” is great, but “red, mysterious, little door” sounds weird. (Also, how to spell “weird.”) Fiendish. Yet glorious at the same time.

Your life is valuable and meaningful. Sharing it with me and the stories that bloom in the aether, seep into my mind, dance through these words, and finally resonate with you in some way… that’s special. Thanks.
I look forward to sharing more written adventures with you soon and wish you all the best in the meantime.
